The Band
The Cadillac
Stepbacks are a hot pickin', sweet singin', good lookin' bluegrass band
based out of Raleigh, NC. Cadillac Stepback shows are hard driving traditional
bluegrass complete with tight vocal harmonies, fast bluegrass instrumentals,
and their own blend of youthful energy. The members come from diverse
musical backgrounds ranging from delta blues to jazz to straight up, back
woods, gettin' your corn from a jar, east Tennessee Bluegrass. The Stepbacks
play the traditional songs of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Don Reno,
and Doc Watson along with great material from singers like Johnny Cash,
Gram Parsons, and Merle Haggard. All of this is sung and played with traditional
bluegrass instrumentation and is infused with each member's own style
and take on the music. These guys play from the heart and with talent
and soul that will keep you coming back for more.
Trent
Boutz - Banjo and Bass Vocals
Trent Boutz has been called everything from "the loudest banjo player
you've ever heard" to "the walking banjo player" for
his escapades at the North Carolina bluegrass festival circuit. He
lives up to everything anybody says about him with his hard-driving,
play till you pass out ("come on, play one more!"), traditional
bluegrass banjo style. It's says a lot about Trent that he plays a
Stelling Master's Cross banjo even though he owns one of those coveted
old Gibsons. The Gibsons just don't have that unmistakable punch and aggressiveness
that Trent has defined as his own personal style on the banjo.
Nathan
Golub - Guitar and Lead Vocals
Nathan Golub plays guitar and sings lead vocals for the Cadillac Stepbacks.
Nathan made his youthful home in Tampa, Florida. Before coming to
bluegrass, he developed his powerful and soulful vocals singing a
mixture of Delta Blues and classic country in every blues jam, open
mic, and coffee house that would let him walk in the door. Nathan
not only plays bluegrass, but also slide resonator guitar and wide
open, gritty electric guitar. Nathan has a deep love of all music styles that call forth the history, passions
and soul of the generations before him. This makes him a valuable
torchbearer for the new generation of bluegrass music.
Jason
Hedrick - Bass and Tenor Vocals
Jason
plays bass and sings tenor vocals for the Cadillac Stepbacks. Jason
grew up playing classical and jazz trumpet under the valuable influence
of his parents who were long time music teachers in Albemarle, NC,
where he grew up. After searching through a variety of musical opportunities
in his life, Jason is happy to be on upright bass playing down home,
North Carolina bluegrass with some of the best musicians he knows. Jason's
influences these days mostly include many of the great jazz bass players
and Mike Bub from the Del McCoury Band.
Allen
Ray - Mandolin and Baritone Vocals
Allen
hails from Creedmoor, NC and is the newest member of the Cadillac
Stepbacks...well, sort of. We've actually been pickin' with Allen
at every bluegrass jam in the area for more than two years. He is
one of the best pickers around and is already well know in the Bluegrass
community for his hard driving mandolin and guitar playing. He knows
every tune you can think of and he'll play them with you all night
long if you'll let him. Bluegrass is in his blood, sure as anything we've ever seen, and we're glad
to have him as a part of The Cadillac Stepbacks!
